The walk

From the shop, cross the Grantham Canal by the red-brick humpback bridge and follow the towpath about 800 m to bridge 62. Leave the canal for Longmoor Lane — a section of the Viking Way lined with old oaks and ash — which climbs gently past the abutments of the ironstone-mining bridge. Field paths then lead back with the church tower ahead and Belvoir Castle on the ridge.

Expect stiles throughout and one road crossing in the middle section; livestock may be in the fields, so keep dogs on leads there. The route ends near the Rutland Arms.
