The walk
Whitwell to Sykes Lane is 1.2 miles and Whitwell to Barnsdale 1.5 miles along the shore — go one way and back for an hour, or carry on: the full circuit is 22.1 miles (about eight hours), 15.1 without the Hambleton Peninsula, and the peninsula alone is a 7-mile loop.
Dogs must be on a lead at all times, are not allowed in the water, and are not permitted in the nature reserve at Egleton and Lyndon or on the beach at Sykes Lane. Bag and bin waste. Cyclists share the track.
Conditions can change. Keep dogs under appropriate control, close gates, and follow local signage. This is a guide to where to go, not a navigation app.
