The old quarry ground on the eastern edge of Grantham: 7.6 acres of wooded hollows and open grassland with big views back over the town, owned by the parish council and widely used by walkers with and without dogs.
Two distinct halves — one wooded, one open grassland with scattered bushes — on ground that rises and falls where the quarry was worked in the 1800s. The rights of way cross the site and link to Gorse Lawn and Beacon Lane; informal paths wander between them. A protective fence keeps the core area for wildlife. Benches and information lecterns are maintained by parish volunteers. The Ramblers’ “Hills and Hollows” walk (under 5 miles) climbs here from Queen Elizabeth Park and returns through Wyndham Park.
Conditions can change. Keep dogs under appropriate control, close gates, and follow local signage. This is a guide to where to go, not a navigation app.
