Livestock is common here — keep dogs on a lead near animals and follow signs.

National Trust parkland walks across a 1,300-acre deer park: the waymarked park walk, the pleasure grounds and the riverside. Dogs on short leads throughout — the deer never leave and sheep graze most of the park.

The walk

Dogs on leads are welcome in the gardens, the parkland, the courtyard, the shop and the Stables Café — not the house or the play areas. Keep to a short lead: sheep graze across the parkland and the deer are always there. If cattle approach, the Trust’s advice is to let the dog go and recall it when safe.

The park walk is waymarked from the car park and takes in ancient woodland; the riverside walk follows the Witham through the park. Dog bins are placed around the park and there are water bowls at the stable yard.
